Heavy haulage · OOG trucking · Vietnam
Heavy haulage from Vietnamese ports to site on our own lowbed fleet, with the oversize permit, route survey and escort planned by the same team.

Heavy haulage in Vietnam is mostly a planning job. The truck is the easy part. The hard part is a permit that names the right plate and route, a bridge that can take the axle load, and a site that is open when the convoy arrives at 2 a.m.
This page shows the equipment we own, the rules that decide whether you need an oversize permit, how long each step takes, and what to send us for a firm price.
We own the trailers that carry the difficult loads. When the trailer is ours, the date in our quote is a date we control.
| Equipment | Key specs | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 6-axle lowbed (own) | Deck 14.5 m · width 3.2 m · gooseneck 4 m · payload up to 62 t | Tanks, pressure vessels, press frames, long machinery |
| 4-axle lowbeds × 2 (own) | Payload up to 44 t · gooseneck 1.6 m high, about 4 m long | Over-width flat racks, machinery, cable reels, rollers and excavators |
| Prime movers (own) | Heavy-duty tractor units matched to each trailer | Port to site, long-haul to central Vietnam and border areas |
| Partner equipment | Hydraulic modular trailers, SPMT, mobile cranes 25–500 t | Moves beyond our own lowbed capacity |
The gooseneck of a 4-axle lowbed can still carry a few small, light pieces. That often saves one truck on a multi-piece breakbulk lot. We tell you upfront which equipment is our own and which comes from long-term partners.

Vietnamese rules look at the loaded vehicle, not the cargo alone. Under Circular 12/2025/TT-BXD, as amended by Circular 19/2026/TT-BXD, you need an oversize permit when the vehicle with its load exceeds any limit below.
| Limit | Threshold (vehicle + cargo) | Classification |
|---|---|---|
| Width | over 2.5 m | Oversize (out-of-gauge) |
| Height from road to top point | over 4.2 m; over 4.35 m for container vehicles | Oversize |
| Length | over 20 m | Oversize |
| Gross combination weight | over 48 t | Overweight (super-heavy) |
Gross weight means tractor, trailer, cargo, dunnage and lashing together. A 30 t transformer on a trailer can already pass 48 t. Axle loads matter too: a single axle is limited to 10 t, a tandem to 11–18 t and a tri-axle group to 21–24 t, depending on axle spacing.
A super-heavy permit covers one indivisible piece per vehicle. If the cargo can be split, the authority expects it to travel split.
Add a drawing with lifting points if you have it. We reply with the trailer type, permit class and an honest lead time.
The issuing authority is the provincial Department of Construction, or the Vietnam Road Administration when a route crosses several provinces. Once the file is complete, processing takes about two working days, whether filed in person or through the National Public Service Portal. The real lead time is the work before the file is complete.
| Type of heavy haulage move | Typical lead time | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Simple OOG on a route we know | 3–5 working days | Standard file, existing survey |
| OOG that needs a field survey | 5–10 working days | Survey report, photos, measured control points |
| Super-heavy, complex bridges | 10–20 working days | Axle load and bridge checks with the road authority |
| Reinforcement, several provinces, police, night moves | 15–30 working days | Coordination between provinces and traffic police |
The permit names the vehicle plate, the route, the validity dates and the running conditions: lane, speed, bridge crossing method and escort. Our drivers run only inside those conditions. If the cargo arrives bigger than the drawing, we re-measure after loading and do not move until the permit matches.
A route survey report can be reused. On a surveyed route it stays valid for 6 months for a vehicle of equal or smaller size. On expressways and class I–III lowland roads it stays valid for 9 months when the overall width is 3.3 m or less. That is why our trucks can take most over-width flat racks without a new permit wait.
Agents often ask for a “police escort”. In Vietnam three different things hide behind that phrase, and it helps to keep them apart.
| Task | Who handles it | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Oversize permit | Department of Construction issues it; we apply | Every move above the limits |
| Notice to traffic police | The issuing authority sends the permit to the traffic police of each province on the route | Automatic with the permit |
| Escort vehicle | Our pilot car and crew: warning, spacing, turns, bridge crossings | When the permit or the route requires it |
| Police coordination | We send a written request to local traffic police | Wrong-way sections, weak bridges, toll plazas, night runs across provinces, loads over 3.3 m wide or 4.5 m high in town |
For heavy haulage over 48 t, with a slow convoy, we start police coordination early. It is part of the lead time in the table above, not an extra on the day.
A map route is not a survey. Our team drives the route and records every point that can stop the convoy.
Most heavy haulage in Ho Chi Minh City runs at night. Daytime truck restrictions apply on many urban roads, and a slow convoy is safer when traffic is light. We confirm the site can receive at night before we book the move.
Customer names are withheld. Routes and dates are as recorded in our job files.

Rollers, excavators and other tracked machines go on a 4-axle trailer to keep the overall height low. We check the ramp, chock the tracks and chain the unit to the deck, then send you photos before departure.
Need the ocean leg too? See our OOG cargo page for flat rack and open top bookings into Cat Lai, Cai Mep and Hai Phong.

Two moves of the same distance can differ a lot in price. These are the items that decide it, so you can compare quotes on the same basis.
| Cost item | Why it varies |
|---|---|
| Trailer type and axles | 4-axle or 6-axle, or modular trailer for the heaviest pieces |
| Oversize permit and survey | Known route with a valid survey, or a new field survey and bridge check |
| Escort and police coordination | Required by the permit, the route or night running across provinces |
| Waiting time | Curfew windows, permit dates, port release and site readiness |
| Lifting at both ends | Port crane or mobile crane at pick-up and at site |
| Lashing and materials | Chains, timber, chocks and the lashing certificate |
We quote these lines separately. If you or your customer already hold the oversize permit, we can quote trucking only, as long as the permit is issued for our plate and the waiting time is agreed upfront.

Units too big for any container, discharged hook-to-truck where possible.
