SITC local charges in Vietnam are the fees SITC collects at the Vietnamese port on top of ocean freight: terminal handling (THC), the B/L or delivery order fee, seal, telex release, manifest filing and, on some trades, a container imbalance charge (CIC).

SITC Local Charges: what stands out

• Import CIC applies: CIC – cargo from Japan, 50 USD (incl. VAT) per 20′ and 100 USD (incl. VAT) per 40′. Not every line charges it, so budget it on the consignee side.
• Special equipment: 9 lines of the tariff apply only to reefer, open top, flat rack or out-of-gauge cargo (table below).
• Port-specific items for Da Nang, Hai Phong, Quy Nhon: the same container can cost differently depending on where it is discharged.
• 44 charge lines in total (21 export, 23 import) plus 6 DEM/DET tiers, all checked on 11 Oct 2026.

SITC export local charges in Vietnam

Export SITC local charges are paid by the shipper in Vietnam before the B/L is released. Amounts as published by SITC; “n/a” means the item is billed per B/L or not published for that size.

SITC import local charges in Vietnam

Import SITC local charges are paid by the consignee when collecting the delivery order. Cleaning and maintenance items depend on the cargo type, so check which row applies to your goods.

SITC charges for reefer, open top and flat rack

SITC DEM/DET and free time in Vietnam

DEM/DET sits outside the SITC local charges themselves but often costs more. Demurrage (DEM) runs while the full container stays in the port after free time; detention (DET) runs while the box is outside the port. Some SITC tariffs combine both into one count. Rates are per container per day.

Before you book SITC from or to Vietnam: checklist

Most surprises on SITC local charges come from five points. Check them on the booking, not after the vessel sails.

• Confirm the port. Port-specific rows exist for Da Nang, Hai Phong, Quy Nhon, so the discharge terminal changes the bill.
• Check the currency on each line. SITC bills USD and VND on this tariff; USD items are converted at the carrier’s exchange rate on the invoice date.
• Ask who pays CIC and cleaning. CIC is on this tariff, so agree with the consignee who carries it.
• Declare special equipment early. 9 rows apply only to reefer, open top, flat rack or out-of-gauge boxes.
• Count the free days. Free time is set per booking; get it in writing before the vessel arrives.
