ZIM local charges in Vietnam are the fees ZIM collects at the Vietnamese port on top of ocean freight: terminal handling (THC), the B/L or delivery order fee, seal, telex release, manifest filing and, on some trades, a container imbalance charge (CIC).

• Export THC 40′ dry: 5,400,000 VND (incl. VAT) is 215,000 VND above the median of 5,185,000 VND across the 16 lines we track that bill THC in VND, ranked 12 of 16 from the lowest. VAT treatment differs between carriers, so compare like with like.
• Import THC 40′ dry: 5,400,000 VND (incl. VAT) is 200,000 VND above the median of 5,200,000 VND across the 17 lines we track that bill THC in VND, ranked 11 of 17 from the lowest. VAT treatment differs between carriers, so compare like with like.
• No import CIC is listed in the ZIM Vietnam tariff we hold. Check the booking confirmation, as some trades add it.
• Special equipment: 14 lines of the tariff apply only to reefer, open top, flat rack or out-of-gauge cargo (table below).
• Port-specific items for Cai Mep, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City: the same container can cost differently depending on where it is discharged.
• Import free time: 5 days before DEM/DET starts; export free time 7 days.

Export ZIM local charges are paid by the shipper in Vietnam before the B/L is released. Amounts as published by ZIM; “n/a” means the item is billed per B/L or not published for that size.

ZIM import local charges in Vietnam

Import ZIM local charges are paid by the consignee when collecting the delivery order. Cleaning and maintenance items depend on the cargo type, so check which row applies to your goods.

ZIM charges for reefer, open top and flat rack

ZIM DEM/DET and free time in Vietnam

DEM/DET sits outside the ZIM local charges themselves but often costs more. Demurrage (DEM) runs while the full container stays in the port after free time; detention (DET) runs while the box is outside the port. Some ZIM tariffs combine both into one count. Rates are per container per day.

Before you book ZIM from or to Vietnam: checklist

Most surprises on ZIM local charges come from five points. Check them on the booking, not after the vessel sails.

• Confirm the port. Port-specific rows exist for Cai Mep, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, so the discharge terminal changes the bill.
• Check the currency on each line. ZIM bills USD and VND on this tariff; USD items are converted at the carrier’s exchange rate on the invoice date.
• Ask who pays CIC and cleaning. No CIC is listed, but cleaning and maintenance rows still depend on the cargo.
• Declare special equipment early. 14 rows apply only to reefer, open top, flat rack or out-of-gauge boxes.
• Count the free days. Import free time is 5 days; plan delivery and empty return inside it.
