Emirates DEM/DET and free time in Vietnam

DEM/DET sits outside the Emirates local charges themselves but often costs more. Demurrage (DEM) runs while the full container stays in the port after free time; detention (DET) runs while the box is outside the port. Some Emirates tariffs combine both into one count. Rates are per container per day.

Most surprises on Emirates local charges come from five points. Check them on the booking, not after the vessel sails.

• Confirm the port. Port-specific rows exist for Cai Mep, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, so the discharge terminal changes the bill.
• Check the currency on each line. Emirates bills USD and VND on this tariff; USD items are converted at the carrier’s exchange rate on the invoice date.
• Ask who pays CIC and cleaning. No CIC is listed, but cleaning and maintenance rows still depend on the cargo.
• Declare special equipment early. 6 rows apply only to reefer, open top, flat rack or out-of-gauge boxes.
• Count the free days. Import free time is 7 days; plan delivery and empty return inside it.
